The meeting started with a welcome address and a small introduction by all the participants to know each other. This was followed by the Brainstorming session.
The following was agreed by the core members as per the agenda:
1.Forming an association would be in our interest as it would be easy to identify the key persons to share responsibilities.
a.There would be focal points nominated for all the activities which will help in proper management.
b.At least 3 key people will have to be identified from each batch to help smooth run the association
c.School would get promotion with the Alumni Association
d.Social & Business networking for Old students – Business opportunities, Job opportunities, guidance with studies, etc.
e.Current students would get support for career counselling from experts from various fields… not to forget in the core group meeting talents were present (Lawyer, Bank manager, Aeronautics Engineer, Professional Dancer, etc…)
As and when key people from each batch are identified to represent their respective batched in
the association, office bearers may also be chosen.
Marking attendance
2.Contacting students and reaching them at once is a big concern that was also addressed in the meeting. Some possible options available were:
a.Yahoo groups – with this service an e-mail can be sent to all the members at once. Earlier registered however, due to a change in yahoo policies, they are only accepting yahoo users as member now. This means if you don’t have a yahoo account, you can’t be a member.
Suggested: Either one more such parallel group is created on google groups to keep the google users updated as well. The problem with google groups is that it is complicated to use. Not user friendly as other google products.
Meeting proceeds
b.Social Networking websites – Most of our school students actively use orkut. More than 2400 orkut users are already a member of the DAV community which can be reached using the following link http://www.orkut.co.in/CommMsgs.aspx?cmm=5341175&tid=5241205491148120816... The problem faced while communicating with the community is even the owner or moderators cannot send a message to all the members at once. On the other hand most of the users are not quite fond of using forums to communicate and put their suggestions. We are not sure whether they even read it or not.
Discussions started
c.Blogging – This is a revolutionary concept which has brought the world more closer, some blogging sites are owned by yahoo, google, etc. The new addition to this is micro blogging which is twitter, like the name suggests it takes blogging to a micro level. We agreed that this could be one of easiest way to reach all the students and they’ll get the information where they are. You just have to register once and make your mobile phone active and you can get the alerts on your mobile phone. Your number is not shared with anyone, so you don’t have to worry as well.
3.Promoting the association - Once the association is formed and school authorities approve it, we can have:
a.Slogan for the association
b.Logo for the association
c.Charter for the association
d.Website for the association in conjunction with the school website
